Exit Exam

Upon completion of the one year Practical Nursing Program, students will be required to take a comprehensive HESI Exit Exam and pass with a score of 900 or higher.

Passing Score

Fail on the first attempt: Student will be required to complete an approved practical nursing review course before being eligible to retake the HESI Exit Exam.

Fail on the second attempt: Student will have to repeat the Illinois College of Nursing’s NUR 103 Medical-Surgical Nursing course, including its theory and clinical portion, prior to taking their third attempt. Any student requiring re-enrollment of the medical-surgical nursing course will be responsible for any tuition and fees required to enroll in the class.

The student will not be allowed to retake medical-surgical nursing more than one time.

EXAM COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of the exam with a score of 900 or higher, the student will become eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination.

The HESI Exit Exam is developed, tested and regulated by Elsevier but is proctored on-site at the Illinois College of Nursing campus.

The Exit Exam helps students identify their strengths and weaknesses and provides individualized recommendations for remediation to address knowledge deficits prior to taking the NCLEX-PN examination.
