Practical Nursing Admission

The following is a list of the minimal requirements needed to be considered for acceptance into the nursing program:

  • High school diploma or GED from a state-approved school
  • High school or college GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.00 scale
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Evidence of completing and passing, with at least a “C”, in each of the following courses: A) English (3 years of HS or 1 semester in college) B) Algebra (2 years of HS or 1 semester of college) C) Biology (1 year of HS or 1 semester in college)
  • Current CPR/BLS card
  • Proof of personal medical insurance
  • Certified Background and sanction check
  • Proof and clearance of 10 panel drug screening
  • Proof of immunizations/titers: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Current PPD/Mantoux/TB Test showing negative results (2 Step TB skin test, each received 1-2 weeks apart and read 48-72 hours after administration); if positive must have negative chest x-ray results
  • Current history and physical completed by a licensed health care provider
  • Valid CNA certification
  • Acceptable score on the pre-admission exam

Participation

No student will be allowed to participate in any clinical portion of the program without current medical clearance, proof of vaccination, valid medical insurance and satisfactory background check.

Attendance

The attendance policy will apply to all students who miss any part of the program due to failure to provide the appropriate supporting documentation which can result in dismissal from the nursing program.
